  • name change

I see where you have a section in your services that says ''name change'' I am interested. I was wondering if it is possible to change my first name to anothr name that I have been using. And too would I recieve a new birth certificate when my new name change. I was born in Maryland so would I petition that state for the if possible name change.

If you are a resident of NY, you petition NY for the name change. You need a certified copy of your birth certificate. As long as the purpose for the name change is not fraud and you haven't been convicted of a crime, etc. it is not complicated at all.I just completed one to change the last name to a name that he was using and it was approved in aprox 4wks.You will need to eventually place a legal notice in the newspaper (perhaps MD and NY).

It is somewhat involved. There are documents from the State Health Department etc. to be signed and filed. Let me know if you are serious.

  • name change

The divorce papers say I have to change my name back to my maiden name. Can I change it any name as long as I change it? Also, does it cost to do this? And if I have to change it to my maiden name, can I change again anytime?
    • Re: name change

I have never heard of a divorce decree stating what your last name must be. Normally, it will simply grant the wife's request to revert back to her maiden name. Have a local attorney review the decree because you can generally change your name to anything you want, as long as it is not for the purpose of defrauding creditors.

Your name legally is what the divorce says it is.To change it to anything else, you'd have to file a new name change case in court. Call me if we can help you with that.

  • Change of First Name

Am trying to change my first name and the documents ask if I have ever changed my name before. Not my first. But my last due to marriage. 1 problem tho...I forgot to change it on my ss card years ago. How do I write the paperwork out? Change or no change ever? With my maiden name or my maiden & married name hyphened? What will be on record? Do you think this will be to complicated for me to do alone?
    • Re: Change of First Name

You should fully answer the question and if you did use another name (which you did) it should be listed. While you may be able to do this on your own, you may feel more comfortable with an attorney guiding you through the process.

  • How to change last name in Texas

I am already divorced, but the name change was not included in the decree. How can I now change my name back to my maiden name? I saw the change of name forms on your site, but there were PETITION and ORDER of adult name change. I didn't know the difference. If I order these is this all I need? Please help. Thanks,
    • Re: How to change last name in Texas

You return to the court which granted the divorce with a request to restore your former name. One makes a request of a court by filing a Petition stating the relief requested.A hearing [not always] is held or a determination made concerning the request, by a judge, and usually it is granted.A court grants a request by filing an Order stating what the decision of the Judge is.You can probably do this yourself if you have some advice from your local public defender or a referral from your local bar association.

  • How to change my first name?

Hello, I am 17 and I want to change my first name. I have always disliked it and would prefer my new name to reflect my heritage, which is very important to me. The change would only be only one letter ,however it makes a large difference. Shortly after I am 18 my family and I move back to Europe, so I will have very little time to wait for a change in the passports or other papers. Please explain the legal process for a minor to change their first name out of desire.Thank you very much.
    • Re: How to change my first name?

you parents can file a name change petition for you or you can do after you are 18

  • name change in PA

i have moved to PA within the past 3 months and would like to change my name and my daaughter's name.. her father, wich i do not wish to name, is not on her birth certificate, and has never been involved in her life in anyway physically or financially.. i am trying to find out if i can change my first, middle and last name, simply for reasons of preference, having only been in this state for a short time and can i change my daughters last name to the last name i want to change mine to without her father's permission,
    • Re: name change in PA

You asked about changing yours and your daughter's names.Pennsylvania requires a person to go through the court to effect a name change. The test for allowing a change is that it is not done to defraud. the judge will ask that the youngster and daughter speak to your reasons and if s/he finds those reasons acceptable then name change will be allowed.Regarding the father, if there is no father named on the birth certificate and you swear (in court) that there is no other person with parental rights, then the father's permission should not be required. You will need to have an attorney help you with the process to ensure that it goes smoothly.Regards,

  • Name Change

I have been divorced for 13 years. I did not change back to my maiden name, but divorce papers state that I can. Can I still use that judgement to change my name, or do I have to go through the complete name change process?
    • Re: Name Change

As long as it's in the Judgment, you likely just need to bring judgment to social security administration and secretary of state to change driver's license and social security card, ect.

  • Forced job change

My employer wants to change my job from one function to another without change in hours or pay. I do not have a job contract. Must I accept this change in job responsibilities (from customer service to a clerical position) or can I refuse?
    • Re: Forced job change

You are not required to accept the change in job responsibilities. You may refuse the change, but your employer could discharge you for refusing to take on the new duties.

  • Adult and minor name change

I would like to change my full name, and then change my children's (ages 3 and 5) last name to mine. I was never married to their father, his name is on both certificates. I am not sure if he will give consent to the name change but if he does, will I be able to change their name for the sake of them having my (new) maiden name? (He is not active in their lives and refuses to work to avoid paying child support. I support them completely so I would like them to have my last name)
    • Re: Adult and minor name change

should not be a problem just time consuming..seek counsel and get it rolling now...MGH

  • name change

I am a 33 year old adult. I wish to change my birth name to my blood father’s name. My birth name is that of my mother’s married name, not her blood. What paper work do I need to do to change my name? Can I just change everything driver’s license and Social Security, to start? Or do I need to legal file a name change?Amber
    • Re: name change

You will have to file a petition for a name change and follow the procedure proscribed for a name change. To just change your name, with the current security situation you may have serious problems in the future.
